The degree course for serious drummers.

Hone your technique. Improve your groove. Learn all you need for a life behind the drums.

If you’re a drummer looking for a course that gives you the skills for a successful career behind the kit, then the BA (Hons) Career Musician degree course is for you.

At WaterBear, we believe in smaller class sizes for effective learning, reinforced with personal 1-1 mentoring. We also believe you should learn on the right gear. We also believe you should learn on pro-standard acoustic kits. That’s why all drummers on our 3-yr degree course learn in small groups on acoustic kits by DW, Yamaha, Tama, Gretsch and more. And our tutors rank among the best players and educators in the UK, keen to share their knowledge with you.

Every week, you’ll hone technical skills, stylistic knowledge, improvisation and stagecraft, and expand your repertoire. You’ll be playing live on stage in a real music venue with other WaterBear musicians and artists. And you’ll learn all you need to know about the realities of being a working drummer in today’s music industry. There are also regular networking events, masterclasses, collaboration and work opportunities so you can build your all-important contacts list.

As a drummer, it’s super-important to understand your role in the music. What to play – and what not to play! And it’s essential to know how to get a great sound, both live and in the studio. That’s why music tech is also a key part of the course, using our state-of-the-art Apple Mac studios. And, like every other WaterBear student, you’ll get full access to all the other courses at the college, so you can dive in as much as you want.

All students at WaterBear get bookable access to free rehearsal and recording studio time, so you won’t need to worry about where to practice and record your drums or your band.

The BA (Hons) Career Musician degree is designed to give you the perfect blend of artistic freedom alongside practical strategies to forge your own career in music.

It’s flexible and comprehensive so you can study in a way that suits you. And you can build your own music projects into the course. It’s fully accredited and approved by one of the UK’s leading specialist universities for the creative industries, Falmouth University.

And for students studying on the 2-yr online course, you’ll also receive a £750 bursary to invest in new equipment, a Pro Tools subscription and a Slate All Access software bundle, so you can learn on your own gear.
