Sharpen your skills. Hone your craft. Get a degree.
If you’re an independent, self-motivated musician who wants to thrive, not just survive, then the BA (Hons) Career Musician at WaterBear is the degree course for you.
At WaterBear, we believe in smaller class sizes for effective learning, reinforced with personal 1-1 mentoring. We also believe you should have the freedom to explore what’s possible and continually push creative boundaries. That’s why all students on our 3-yr degree course learn in small groups on pro-standard gear in environments specially designed to fuel creative output.
Every week, you’ll hone instrumental / vocal techniques, stylistic knowledge, improvisation and stagecraft, and expand your creative repertoire. You’ll be able to perform live on stage in a real music venue with other WaterBear musicians and artists. And you’ll learn all you need to know about the realities of being a professional musician in today’s music industry. There are also regular networking events, masterclasses, collaboration and work opportunities so you can build your all-important contacts list.
As a musician in today’s music industry, we know it’s all about developing a range of skills to help build a sustainable and resilient career. That’s why, as well as focussing on your primary instrument or voice, all students at WaterBear learn music tech using our cross-platform, state-of-the-art Apple Mac studios. And, like every other WaterBear student, you’ll get access to all the other courses at the college, so you can dive into as much other content as you want.
All students at WaterBear get free, bookable access to rehearsal and recording studios, so you won’t need to worry about where to practice and record yourself or your band.
The BA (Hons) Career Musician degree is designed to give you the perfect blend of artistic freedom alongside practical strategies to forge your own career in music.
It’s flexible and comprehensive so you can study in a way that suits you. And you can build your own music projects into the course. It’s fully accredited and approved by one of the UK’s leading specialist universities for the creative industries, Falmouth University.
And for students studying on the 2-yr online course, you’ll also receive a £750 bursary to invest in new equipment, a Pro Tools subscription and a Slate All Access software bundle, so you can learn on your own gear.
