The BA (Hons) Career Musician is a high-level qualification, designed for today’s independent, self-motivated musician. It is available as a 3-year on-site option, or as a 2-year accelerated online Distance Learning option. The course is built on three fundamental pillars – your music, your career and your projects, and offers a unique approach to developing careers in music. The creation of original and innovative music is central to this exciting modern qualification.

Course Subjects & Modules

The BA (Hons) course covers many key subject areas including music performance, instrumental and vocal technique, songwriting and arranging, recording, mixing, mastering, social media, business studies, music history, tour management, live events and national touring.

The set of modules covers a broad range of subject areas. You will focus on the development of your core specialism skills (guitar, vocals, drums, bass, audio production, composition, etc.) whilst also broadening your skillset in other areas such as recording, mixing and mastering, additional instrument or vocal study, music business and other practical project work.

The modules underpin the development of a well-rounded, broad skillset associated with the requirements for a stable career in the music industry and are grouped into three key strands – your music, your career and your projects.

How You’ll Learn

You’ll spend around 10 hours each week onsite in timetabled teaching and learning activities. You’ll also get access to all your module content via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) before your class lectures. Onsite teaching and learning activities can include:

Lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops
One-to-one mentoring
Assessments and feedback sessions
Live performances and gigs
Peer collaboration through the ‘Jam Cloud’ site on the Canvas VLE
Free rehearsal time in professional studios

After graduating, students will be have a number of available options for further study, including the MA Music Entrepreneur course at WaterBear & other postgraduate specialist programmes

Fees & Finance

The tuition fee for UK/EU students is £9,250 for each year of the programme. The 2-year Distance Learning course is £9,950 for each year of the programme. If you are a UK resident, undergraduate tuition fee and maintenance loans are available for eligible students. You may also be able to access a tuition fee loan and help with living costs if you’re from an EU country and based in the UK.

How to Apply

Entry Requirements
A Levels (or combination with AS / EPQ / BTEC / Cambridge Technical / etc.) equal to 104-120 UCAS Tariff Points (BTEC / Cambridge Technical: DMM), or international equivalent.

International Students
The BA (Hons) 2-year online Distance Learning option is also open to students located outside of the UK and EU. International students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall and for each component.
